Back to my roots at Ponty Library!

A big thank you/diolch yn fawr to the staff and to everyone who came along to Pontardawe library this morning for my reading from ‘Why did my brain make me say it?’ - it was my first library event and it seemed to go really well. I used to go to the village library every Saturday for the ritual of returning, choosing and stamping my books for the week, so it was amazing to be back with my own book on the shelf and an audience with members ranging from about 7 months to 75 years old. There was some excellent joining in with ‘New School Shoes’ - it seems I’m not the only one whose mother made me have the boring, sensible Clarks stompers that would last - no patent leather, satin bows or toys in the heel for us!

It was also a real pleasure to meet Sofia (not quite a year 7, no longer year 6, see ‘In-betweener’), who in September will be going up to the same Secondary school I went to, and is already a published poet and author of short stories. She brought this fantastic poem with her, which she kindly gave to me, and which sums it all up really! I’m sure we’ll be hearing a lot more from her in the future.
